Sights of Vladikavkaz

It is difficult to call Vladikavkaz a resort or a major tourist center of the country. Nevertheless, it is the center of the North Caucasus, a fairly large city that is visited daily by thousands of people from different parts of the country. Someone comes here to work, someone to visit friends or relatives, perhaps there are just curious tourists traveling around Russia. A huge cultural heritage, color, national customs and traditions are what attract and captivate all guests without exception. Sights, a photo with a description of each, history is what we offer modern tourists. So, all believers should go to the Elias Church, located on the old Meshchansky cemetery, just a few kilometers from the city center.

Initially, a place was allocated for the construction of the chapel of the Prophet Elijah in 1888, and over the next seven years, construction work continued. During this time, the chapel was assigned to the Konstantin-Eleninsky church, its leader was father Vasily Zhukov. Construction was completed in 1985.

Monastery Fiagdon

If you are interested in Vladikavkaz, attractions, photos of the city, pay attention to our rating of the best places. So, a visit to the monastery must necessarily be included in your cultural program. This architectural miracle is located in the mountains, in a small gorge. The flow of tourists here is inexhaustible - everyone wants to see with their own eyes the miracle of the world. You will not only be able to admire the stunning views opening from the monastery site, but also defend the service, communicate with the clergy, and purchase souvenirs. Not far from the monastery flows the river Fiagdon. The monks have consecrated this place, now everyone can use the water to recover from illness and healing.

Mountains are a decoration of the city, a subject of pride of local residents. Breathing in the mountains is surprisingly easy, I do not want to leave here ever. That is why you must visit this picturesque place as part of your visit to North Ossetia.

Mukhtarov Mosque

Even if you are an Orthodox person, the Mukhtarov Sunni mosque deserves your attention. Quite often, tourists want to see sights when they come to Vladikavkaz. And the city has something to surprise. Mosques are a reflection of the culture of local residents. It is not necessary to go inside, but you can enjoy their external splendor.

The Sunni Mukhtarov Mosque impresses with its very unusual architecture, it is functioning. For local residents, the mosque is of particular value: in Soviet times, men, picking up weapons, defended it and were not allowed to demolish it. Currently, this object is awarded the status of a historical object and is under state protection.

Memorial of Glory

Going on a trip, of course, you can find out in advance what Vladikavkaz is. Sights, photos with the names of the most popular places can also be viewed in advance, but we suggest using our rating. The Memorial of Glory appeared in the city relatively recently. A huge area was reserved for an object that reflected in stone the history of North Ossetia, those events that should forever remain in the hearts and memories of local residents. This place is visited not only by guests, but also by residents of the city: it is so interesting, iconic and beautiful.

Monument to the Gazdanov brothers

If you have already managed to explore the whole of Vladikavkaz, the sights (which is worth seeing, we continue to consider) it, feel free to go to the suburbs. Just a few kilometers from the city is a monument to the Gazdanov brothers. Everyone should visit him.

The monument appeared near the roadway in 1963, it is dedicated to the seven brothers Gazdanov, who died tragically during the Great Patriotic War. The author of the monument is the famous architect of North Ossetia Sergey Pavlovich Sanakoev. Over the entire period of the Great Patriotic War, more than 100,000 young people went to the front as volunteers, most of them did not return.

So these 7 guys immediately after the mobilization joined the ranks of volunteers, the war took away all the sons from the mother, which the author tried to portray. An amazingly touching historical place that needs attention. Many of those guests who visited here emphasize that tears really come from his soulful history. The monument is located very close to the city, so be sure to plan a visit to it as part of your excursion program.

After a protracted three-year repair, the museum opened its doors for visitors in March 2013. This is really a great place where everyone will find something interesting, useful, able to delve into the history of North Ossetia, imbued with the culture of the people.

Children's Park named after Zhukovsky

Many believe that attractions are exclusively objects of architecture. This is a huge misconception and the example is Vladikavkaz. Its sights are represented by nature reserves, mountains, rocks, gorges. Zhukovsky Children's Park is recognized as a natural monument of North Ossetia - be sure to visit it if you find yourself in this city. In the middle of the 19th century on this very spot was Alexander Square. Around 1934, the church of Alexander Nevsky was destroyed, in its place the square was destroyed, which later received the name Zhukovsky. Only in March 1939, local authorities decided to assign the park the status of a children's park, which it is to this day. Great place for relaxing family walks, games with children.

Indigenous people call this place Rabinirag. These cultural monuments date back to the 18th century and are important for studying the history of the Ossetian people, as well as their art and life. In the mountain villages of Ossetia, very often crypts were built, made in the form of elevated tombs, which were designed for collective burials.

The city of the dead is a historical and architectural monument and is protected by the state. In their form, crypts resemble small towers and are distinguished by the skillful laying of walls and roofs, as well as great strength. The cone-shaped and pyramidal forms of the roof of the tombs were laid out in the form of stepped ledges from slate slate.
